Swindon Powertrain are finalising the application of a Bosch Motorsport MS6 ECU to a version of their British Touring Car engine. The ECU controls the Direct Injection turbocharged engine from a single box, and includes 1GB of data logging memory. These engines will be available for sale at the end of June. They will be supplied complete with engine and chassis wiring harness, and MS6 ECU with open calibration allowing further tuning to suit power level, vehicle and driver demands, as required. contact us for further details

Swindon Powertrain will be supplying engines and engineers to 17 cars out of 32 on this year grid, including the Vauxhall and MG Works teams. From a highly developed direct injection turbo charged engine labelled TOCA to our group of experienced engineers we will be working in partnership with our drivers and racing teams and help them exceed their ambition. Swindon powered cars undeniably led the way during the first round of the 2016 BTCC in Brands Hatch. Tom Ingram in his heavily re-designed Toyota, racing for Speedworks Motorsport, qualified on pole position achieving a new lap record for the Indy track. He capitalised on his Saturday’s performance by displaying a controlling first race win whilst Adam Morgan’s Mercedes of Ciceley Motorsport won the penultimate race in a domineering fashion.

Both competitors using Swindon prepared engines and electronics not only finished their long distance rally on the Dakar and the Africa Race, they also achieved very competitive results with stage wins and an overall 2nd place for Pascal Thomasse and the MD Rallye Team. A big accident damaging suspension components prevented a top 20 finish for Eric Bernard and Team Sodicar but he still reaches the finish on what is the hardest rally raid on the planet.

Swindon is changing its UK company name from Swindon Engines Ltd to Swindon Powertrain Ltd, in line with its current range of activities. The UK company, created in 1971, remains unchanged but its new name reflects better its areas of expertise with a combination of thermal, mechanical, electric and electronics applications being developed across motorsport and automotive projects. The French arm of the business remains Swindon France SARL.

Motul becomes a technical partner of Swindon in an agreement that will give both companies an edge over the competition. Through powertrain development programs progressed at Swindon, experimental lubricants will be tested and data collected for Motul’s benefit. Any efficiency and durability progress made on powertrains will then benefit Swindon’s customers, whether the application is motorsport or passenger vehicles. The agreement also extends to machining operations where Swindon operates a state of the art crankshaft and other complex prototype component manufacture.

Swindon celebrates a year of fantastic BTCC success. With 12 race wins and 4 pole positions, power units and engineering services provided by Swindon to 13 BTCC teams have shown outstanding performance and durability within a championship more challenging and popular as ever. In the end, four titles were bagged with Swindon power under the bonnet: Overall Team Champion and Independant Team Champion with BMR and Independant Driver Champion with Colin Turkington, whilst Josh Cook conquered the Jacks Sears Trophy.)

A new evolution of Swindon’s direct injection GM LT1 V8 has just completed its development stage in preparation for the 2016 Dakar Rally. It makes full use of cylinder de-activation and direct injection strategies for increased fuel economy whilst beating performance level previously seen with higher capacity LS7s.

Series organiser TOCA has awarded the five-year contract for the supply of a new NGTC-spec ‘TOCA’ engine to Swindon. Alan Gow, BTCC Series Director, said: ”I would like to congratulate Swindon on the award of this new contract to supply the new ‘TOCA’ engine until 2021... Swindon supply 20 out of 32 cars in this year’s BTCC. And they have been very successful in the first part of the season pocketing three pole positions and six victories by Team BMR’s Volkswagens and Ciceley Racing’s Mercedes. The latest Swindon Engine has been supplied to, Lewis’ brother, Nicolas Hamilton driving an Audi for AMD.

Infiniti is developing a pair of Q50 touring cars powered by Swindon to compete in the 2015 BTCC. The works program will be raising funds the “Support Our Paras” charity with Richard Awken and Derek Palmer behind the wheels.

Swindon has now completed thorough testing of its Dakar direct injection V8 engine on an off road test venue in the south of France. The Dakar race starts from Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 5th of January, going across the Andes, to the Pacific coast of South America and back, via Bolivia.

Straight out of the box, they have already collected a first and third place in the 2WD class during the European Championship Rally du Valais. Swindon powered MG 6s, prepared by Triple Eight Race Engineering and driven by Jason Plato and Sam Tordoff won a total of seven races during an action packed 2014 BTCC season. The manufacturer title was finally sealed by MG in the very last Brands Hatch race week-end, after another pole position and a victory from Jason Plato.

The new Swindon V8 direct injection, Dakar specification, has just been signed off for release after extensive rig testing. Developed in conjunction with a modern and modular electronic package, taking full advantage of its increased efficiency and improved performance, the new direct injection powerplant will compete in a series of rally raids in 2015. The penultimate race week-end of the 2014 BTCC championship was very successful for Swindon Powertrain powered cars in Silverstone. Jason Palto’s MG managed to get pole position and his speed was confirmed with two victories on race day. Very competitive all week-end were BMR’s Volkwagen Passats resulting in a couple of podiums. Adam Morgan’s Mercedes also managed a good points harvest with strong performance all around.

The new direct injection GM V8 LT1 (from the new Corvette) is currently being tested at Swindon in preparation for a series of projects to do with Dakar and Sports Cars. As a direct replacement of the widely used LS3, the new powerplant offers increased performance as well as much improved fuel efficiency due to its new fuel system and cylinders deactivation (runs as a V4 when cruising). Harrison Scott and Team Falcon had a very successful week-end at Croft. After qualifying his Swindon powered Formula Ford on pole position, Scott won the first race and managed to score many point in the following two races. This puts him in the lead of the championship at mid-season.

Very strong week-end for cars powered by Swindon at this week-end Oulton Park BTCC. Leading speed traps classifications all along, Swindon powered cars went on to qualify on the front row with Jason Plato and his 888 MG, whilst he collected a couple of podium on Sunday together with Rob Austin and his RAR Audi. Victory was also part of the success with Aaron Smith and his BMR VW in round 3.

Mickael Reydellet, with a Swindon powered Renault Clio R3 wins his class and finishes an impressive 3rd overall in Gard rally. He is now fourth in the Renault Sport Challenge where Swindon powered Renault Clios can be found in third (Chavanne) and fifth place (Carminati).

As well as pole position taken by Jason Plato, Swindon powered cars were lining up third, fifth, sixth, etc... on the grid of the first race in Donington. In the end, the MGs of Triple Eight finish first and second of the first two races followed by very strong performance from Aaron Smith’s VW and Tom Ingram’s Toyota. Almost a perfect race week-end!

After only two rounds of the 2014 Formula Ford championship, Swindon has already started to impress with a pole position and a win for Harrison Scot, part of a three car team championship assault by Falcon Motorsport.

Swindon’s engines will be found under the bonnet of a total of fourteen cars in this year’s BTCC. Three MGs from Triple Eight, two Volkswagen and two Vauxhalls from team BMR, two Toyotas from Speedworks and one from Lea Wood Racing, one Mercedes from Ciceley, two Audis from RAR and one from Rotek will all be powered by engines designed, developed and manufactured by Swindon. In addition, Swindon provides dedicated Support Engineers at each race week-end, working together with the teams to help get the most performance out onto the track.

Swindon are pleased to announce that they have now opened a division in France.

The new division is the result of the buyout of the Cupissol Moteurs company who specialised in the maintenance and testing of rally engines. The new French based Swindon operation is managed by Oliver Volpi who comes to Swindon with 10 years experience as a Project Manager at Sodemo Moteurs.

Oliver Volpi said ”I am delighted with the opportunity. We offer comprehensive engine assembly, maintenance and testing services here and joining forces with Swindon’s UK head office gives us access to high technology in the fields of design, simulation and manufacturing which will help developing our business in France".

Managing Director, Raphaël Caillé said “The opening of the new facility in France also heralds a new era, with the company being rebranded as ‘Swindon’ to better reflect the wider range of services offered. The French division is putting the Swindon name out into the rally scene and also gives our UK Engineers more scope to export their development and manufacturing capabilities to the continent”.

The Swindon powered MGs of Plato and Tordoff were again fastest in Brands Hatch BTCC qualifying and they capitalised in the first two races with impressive wins. Meanwhile, Jack Goff Vauxhall Insignia showed impressive pace all week-end ending up second in the final race and Lea Wood collected the overall Jack Sears Trophy in style.

Another great performance for Swindon Powertrain powered cars in Silverstone with a front row lock out for MG in qualifying followed by a very strong performance for Dave Newsham and his Speedworks Toyota in P3. Jason Plato capitalized on race day with two race wins increasing his total number of victories to six this season.

Swindon Powertrain powered cars were the fastest during the last BTCC round in Rockingham. Jason Plato’s MG got pole position closely followed by his team mate Sam Tordoff and Rob Austin’s Audi in P3. Race day was eventful with a lot of track action and Rob Austin managed to take his first win in style !

Commissioning of a Mazak 7 axis CNC machine has just been completed. The new machine doubles up Swindon Powertrain crankshaft and camshaft manufacture capacity. With machining speed of 20000rpm, very complex aerospace steel components of up to 1.5 meter long can be machined to very high tolerances.

Oulton Park BTCC was extremely successful for cars powered by Swindon Powertrain. The Triple Eight’s MGs got pole position and second place in qualifying whilst Dave Newsham managed an excellent P4. Jason Plato capitalised fully by winning the first two races. Special mention for Rob Austin’s RAR Audi, powered by Swindon Powertrain for the first time, who led most of the third race until he was pushed off the track, finishing in still an impressive P5. Well done to Adam Morgan who gets his first BTCC podium in race 3 with his Toyota!

Our CAM Engineers have just started using the newly installed Siemens NX 8.5 software. The upgrade enhances Swindon Powertrain manufacturing capabilities, including full simulation, making manufacture of crankshafts, cylinderheads and other high precision components safer and faster.

Swindon Powertrain has been appointed by CTCC (Chinese Touring Car Championship) to supply a specifically developed 1.6 Turbo engine to CTCC competitors. The dry sump, 1600cc, 4 cylinder, turbo charged unit of over 300hp has been developed as a purposed durable race engine and can be fitted into any car entered in the championship. It is now readily available.

Jason Plato and his MG collected two wins out of three races at Brands Hatch BTCC race week-end. To complete an overall very strong performance by Swindon Powertrain powered cars, his team mate Sam Tordoff made it to the podium while Adam Morgan and his Toyota followed in 4th place.

Our new CNC CMM has just been fully commissioned. It is a welcome addition to our inspection facility which will allow thorough batch inspection of crankshafts, camshafts and cylinder heads we manufacture. It will also enhance our reverse engineering capabilities and help projects efficiency where such activities take place.

The 2012 BTCC has come to an end in Brands Hatch this week-end and has been extremely successful for Swindon Powertrain powered cars with a total of 6 pole positions (Jason Plato and Dave Newsham) and 8 race wins (Jason Plato). Nearly all our customers have had success at some point during the year with Daniel Welch in Oulton park, Paul O’Neil in Knockhill and Lea Wood in Snetterton. Roll on 2013 !

All Swindon Powertrain powered cars showed strong performance during the Silverstone rounds of the BTCC. Best results were by Jason Plato who managed to get pole position and beat the track lap record as well as win two races. He was followed by Dave Newsham’s Vauxhall who was twice on the podium. Not to forget Dan Welch and his Proton who qualified in sixth position. Next is Brands Hatch in two weeks time, where the championship title will be decided.

Cor Euser Racing’s Lotus Evora, powered by Swindon Powertrain was fastest in class during this week-end’s Silverstone 24hours. Unfortunately, a transmission issue prevented the car from reaching the finish line but the performance of the car was certainly impressive. Next event: Dubai in November.

Jason Plato and his Swindon Powertrain powered MG made wonders again at Rockingham BTCC race week-end. A laptime of 1’22”448 was enough for pole position and is the new lap record for a touring car around the infield track. Sunday brought another victory and there are two more race week-ends to go before the end of the season.

Another successful week-end for Swindon Powertrain powered cars in Knockhill for BTCC’s seventh race week-end of the season. Jason Plato and his MG clinched pole position on Saturday whilst Dave Newsham and his Vauxhall managed to win on Sunday. There are three more events to go before the end of the season.

Swindon Powertrain start using a new dyno air conditioning system. Unfortunately for our engineers, this is not for their own comfort ! But to ensure our prototype and race engines are fed with temperature controlled combustion air, within a degree. This will increase performance measurement accuracy as well as help development progress.

Another successful race week-end for Swindon Powertrain powered cars with four drivers in the top six qualifying at Snetterton BTCC. Jason Plato and his 888 MG were 0.015 seconds off pole position and followed by a race 1 outright win. Dave Newsham and his ES Racing Vauxhall was a front runner all week-end, clinching a last race win in style. Well done to all !

After leading most of the penultimate race at Croft, Andy Neate’s MG was overtaken by team mate Jason Plato who ends the week-end with another impressive victory. All eight Swindon Powertrain powered cars made it to the finish with the exception of Lea Wood who crashed heavily on lap 6.

Daniel Welch’s Proton and Lee Wood’s Vauxhall, both powered by Swindon Powertrain showed very strong pace at this week-end’s Oulton Park BTCC round. They achieve their best race results so far with a 4th and a 5th. Well done to them !
